Cirty by-pass, Germany

In the process of selecting the ideal transportation route landscape-related aspects as well as various emission and feasibility calculations were taken into account.

The traffic volumes on the national highway B 321 passing through the town of Crivitz have seen an enormous increase during the last few years resulting in a higher level of noise and exhaust-gas immissions to which the residents were exposed. Therefore the Economic Ministry of the Federal Land Mecklenburg-Vorpommern decided to launch the preparation and construction of a by-pass road for Crivitz. The corridor of the by-pass road is conceived for a length of 4.92 km. The planned construction measure comprises several junctions (access points) connecting the new road with the existing road network. In order to guarantee a fluent and safe traffic routing these roads are crossed by grade-separated flyovers and accessed via appropriate connection ramps.

Altogether 6 engineering structures are necessary for a safe and environmentally friendly alignment (largest structure: bridge over the valley of the brook Amtsgraben, bridge length: 150 m). The scope of design services comprised, beside road and bridge design, also subsoil investigation, design surveying, design of compensatory landscaping measures, the required noise-related investigations as well as the design of the required drainage facilities and outfall drains. In the process of selecting the ideal transportation route 5 possible road alignments were analysed, taking landscape-related aspects as well as various emission and feasibility calculations into account. As a result a route detouring the town in a northern bow was selected as the favoured alternative.
