The inland port was modernised and adapted to the handling of materials serving the port-related industry.
The inland port Eisenhüttenstadt, conceived as a lateral port at the Oder-Spree Canal, was established in the years 1950 / 1951 and was used mainly for ore and coal handling activities of the former iron-mill combine Eisenhüttenkombinat Ost. At the beginning of the new century the existing building structures did not comply with the contemporary requirements of a modern inland port any more. In a first upgrading stage which was limited to the redevelopment of the northern quay including renewal of the access road and complex supply and disposal systems the port was modernised and adapted to the handling of materials serving the port-related industry (steel, scrap metal, building materials, bulk cargo, timber, stones etc.).
