Renewal of berths, Wismar Sea Port / Germany

The entire south quay area was transformed into a handling facility especially for large quantities of general cargo.

Berths 13 to 15 in the Sea Port of the Hanseatic City of Wismar are used for the handling of general and bulk cargo. The berths are located at the south quay of the general cargo pier. North of the quay, which includes crane rails and railway tracks, there are areas used by the port and a storage hall. The entire south quay area was transformed into a handling facility especially for large quantities of general cargo of port-related industries.

The targets of the measure embraced:

  • Renewal of quay (for higher loads)
  • Improvement of flood protection
  • Development of uninterrupted storage area (in the eastern part)

Constructive data of the project:

  • Length of quay: approx. 500 m
  • 811 foundation piles
  • Lengths of sheet pilings up to 35 m
  • 277 bored / injected piles
  • 24,000 m² area securing
  • 5,500 m³ dredging down to HN - 9.5 m
  • approx. 1,000 m track construction
  • approx. 300 m length of crane rails
