International Garden Exhibition 2003, Germany

An area of about 75 ha was handed over for executing the planning and design of the underground works.

In order to undertake preparatory works for the International Garden Exhibition IGA 2003 in Rostock an area of about 75 ha was handed over for executing the planning and design of the underground works, such as water supply, rain and waste-water drainage, energy supply etc. The works were divided into three sections for the purpose of precise development of the infrastructure. These sections, each representing an individually operable unit, were:

  • Hamburger Tor (western section)
  • Exhibition Hall (central section)
  • IGA park (eastern section)

Major efforts were made to lay the pipes for connections in the low-lying areas near the receiving streams. Often the lines were shifted and new bigger-size pipelines were provided instead. Special attention was given to high ground water levels and poorly bearing subsoil and their impact on the infrastructure.
