Industrial Park "Cargo Village", Pakistan

The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) intends the creation of an industrial area.

The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) intends the creation of an industrial area including multimodal handling terminals in the area of the harbour lagoon “Western Backwaters”.
So the KPT responds to the growing handling volume in the harbour that will continue to increase with the construction of a deepwater port for latest container ships.
Furthermore it will be provided urgently needed industrial area for the fast growing economy in Pakistan and the city of Karachi.

On an area of 600 hectares a Cargo Village as well as an Industrial Area will be implemented, following the latest standards for comparable facilities. For the same client the INROS LACKNER SE designs a cable-stayed bridge across the approach channel which connects the Cargo Village with the newly designed container port.

The project Cargo Village contains the following objects:

  • land reclamation of an area of about 600 hectares, including necessary bank protection measures
  • berths for deep-drafted vessels
  • Approach Channel and berths pockets
  • Road- and rail connection to public networks, internal networks
  • Power and water supply, stormwater drainage systems
  • Construction of an “one-window” office, storage buildings, canteens, mosques, etc.

In the course of the short duration of only 9 months the following services had to be rendered:

  • Site inspections and data collection
  • topographic and bathymetric survey, traffic census
  • subsoil investigation
  • nautical, sedimentologic and hydraulic investigations
  • preparation of a Master plan
  • environmental impact assessment
  • preliminary design
  • detailed design, cost estimate and bill of quantities
  • bidding documents, analysis of the proposals, participation in award of contract
  • General Consultation of the Client (ownership, PPP-projects, etc.)

The services are rendered in close collaboration with local planning offices which contributed technical papers for transport and building construction planning.
