Hydroelectric power plant with complex control technology

The heart of this 10 MW hydroelectric power plant is two horizontal draft tube turbines, which at a flow rate of up to 220 m³/s generate approximately 42,000 MWh of sellable electricity per year, corresponding to the supply of roughly 14,000 homes. One special feature of the power plant is its complex control technology, which compensates for tide-related underwater undulations in order to optimise energy gain. The turbines are variable-speed, and thus exhibit outstanding effectiveness with respect to tidal influences.

A key focus during the planning and design stage was placed on ensuring an environmentally sound solution. This concerned in particular the facilities for upstream and downstream migration of life forms in the water. For instance, the ascent facility for fish was designed as a rough channel with flow disturbance stones, and innovative measures to facilitate fish descent (integrated bypass system in fine screening) were developed against the backdrop of a monitoring programme.
