Bach Ma Eco National Park
Bach Ma National Park, Province Thua Thien Hue, Vietnam

PROJECT INFORMATION IN SHORT: Creation of an eco-friendly new tourist destination in the middle of the National Park Bach Ma combining eco-friendly tourist strategies and the re-erecting of an historic hideaway close to the former Imperial City of Hue, Vietnam

Close to the ancient Imperial City Hue, wealthy Vietnamese and French merchants and clerks founded at the end of the 19th century a hideaway from the city with more than 139 villas on top of the Bach Ma Mountain. Nowadays only 10 villas remain. Blessed with a splendid nature, waterfalls, 5 lakes and an abundant fauna and flora the design concept of WATG, USA combined both pre-conditions: 1. rebuilding the historic ensemble - using the original locations of the ruined villas and 2. sensitive ecotourism encompassing a broad spectrum of environmentally responsible activities which contribute to the well-being of local communities as well as to educate and inform visitors.

The site area is approximately 300 hectares, including a cable car connection between the base station and mountain top area’s main development. The aim of the design is to create a natural spine with eco amenities and attraction zones such as the peak, the heritage village, the waterfall valley and the forest reserve. Inros Lackner Vietnam joined with WATG to develop the 1:2000 Urban Planning for the National Park were the construction density was limited to 2% of the whole area.
